The idea of being a CASA might feel intimidating at first glance, but essentially, there are four key components of the CASA Volunteer role:
Information Gathering
Gathering information about a child’s situation, including their history, their environment, their relationships and the needs of the child.
Facilitation
Identifying appropriate resources and services for the child and family based on the information gathered.
Advocacy
Speaking up for the child by making fact-based recommendations regarding the child’s best interest in a written court report.
Monitoring
Tracking the orders of the court and plans of the child protective agency regarding treatment and services. If plans are not carried out, a CASA lets the court know.
If you can gather information, identify needs and make recommendations, and keep track of them as they progress, you can do the work of a CASA. Want to learn more? Please attend one of our Volunteer Information Sessions!
