The falls of the Ramapo River at Pompton have been an ideal location for waterpower manufacture since the mid-1700s. There was a bloomery forge here as early as 1726 and later a furnace. In 1796, ironmaster Martin Ryerson, owner of the ironworks at Bloomingdale, Wanaque, and Ringwood, acquired the property and operated it successfully for many years. #morriscanal #seepassaiccounty #richhistorybrightfuture #pomptonlakes #njhistory #passaiccounty
