Montclair State University is offering Summer Sessions to help students stay on track or accelerate their education. These sessions run from May through August and provide a wide range of courses across various disciplines, including arts, business, computer science, and more. Courses are available in online, hybrid, or in-person formats to offer flexibility.
The program is open not only to Montclair students but also to visiting students from other institutions and high-achieving high school juniors and seniors through Early College Programs. Students can choose from six different session lengths: a 14-week session, two 7-week sessions, and three 4-week sessions.
Kirsten Tripodi, Director of Summer Sessions at Montclair State University, highlights the benefits of shorter sessions. "A lot of students feel challenged by subjects such as math or science when taking multiple courses," she explains. "But when they only have that one subject to focus on, they’re much more successful academically."
Tripodi also notes the advantages of Montclair's program compared to others in New Jersey due to its affordability and variety of options. "We’re a state institution so we can not only offer a very affordable tuition rate but also convenience with the multitude of modalities and sessions," she says.
Students have access to support services such as informational webinars and academic advising. Financial aid experts at Red Hawk Central are available for consultation regarding financing options for summer classes.
Montclair has aligned its academic calendar so that fall, summer, and spring terms are all 14 weeks long. This allows students to take as many classes during the summer as they would in other terms. "Summer Sessions offers students a really incredible opportunity to get ahead," Tripodi states.
Applications for fall 2025 are still being accepted by Montclair State University for those interested in starting their educational journey.
