Montclair State University’s Open House provides an opportunity to explore the campus, interact with faculty, and learn about academic programs, financial aid, and student life. The event is designed to give prospective students a glimpse of what life could be like as a Red Hawk.
Prospective attendees are encouraged to register for the Montclair Open House on either Sunday, October 13 or Sunday, November 10. The Bloomfield Open House will take place on Saturday, October 26 or Monday, February 17, 2025.
“Our Open House is designed to be as unique as the student’s individual interests and desires,” says Director of Undergraduate Admissions Jordanna Maziarz. With more than 6,000 prospective students and their families expected on campus for the event, staying organized is crucial. Montclair offers an event app that allows users to create personalized schedules and navigate the experience efficiently.
Walking around campus helps visitors envision themselves as students. They can visit residence halls, academic buildings, and the Student Center while exploring opportunities for involvement in leadership and student activities.
Attendees can also meet faculty and staff through presentations or one-on-one conversations. This interaction provides a chance to ask questions about academic programs and career opportunities. Notably, Montclair offers over 80 combined 4+1 programs allowing students to earn two degrees in five years—more than any other university in New Jersey—and has career-preparation tracks in Teacher Education and Certification as well as Law and Medical fields.
For those undecided about their major, the Open House serves as an opportunity to explore different programs. Montclair's University College supports undergraduates with expert guidance in choosing majors aligned with their interests and career goals.
The event also covers insights into application deadlines, scholarships, tips for submitting strong applications, financial aid options including the tuition-free Red Hawk Advantage Award available at both Bloomfield and Montclair campuses.
Montclair’s redesigned Honors Program encourages exploration of public service and creative leadership while offering up to $2,000 in funding toward experiential learning opportunities along with scholarships.
Visitors will experience Red Hawk pride by meeting mascots Rocky and Roxy along with Pebbles—the official campus pupscot—and learning about varsity sports teams and over 120 clubs ranging from artistic to community-service organizations.
Touring residence halls gives a sense of living on campus with first-year options at Bohn Hall or suite-style living at Blanton Hall among others.
Regan Neal—a senior Psychology major—frequently leads tours for prospective students noting that visitors are often impressed by the university's size being second largest in New Jersey with over 300 majors/minors/concentrations along with its Mission Revival architecture giving it a Californian feel within New Jersey context.
