Montclair State University has been ranked among the best national universities in Washington Monthly magazine’s 2024 College Guide and Rankings, released on August 26.
The rankings are based equally on three factors: social mobility, research, and public service.
Highlights from the 2024 Washington Monthly College Guide and Rankings show Montclair's significant rise:
- Ranked No. 57 in the nation, up from No. 81 in 2023.
- Ranked No. 2 in New Jersey and the top public university in the state.
- Ahead of institutions including Rutgers University-New Brunswick (No. 62), NYU (No. 64), and Ohio State University (No. 92).
“Instead of emphasizing endowment size and how many applicants a college rejects, these rankings focus on what really matters: the way a college’s education changes the trajectory of students’ lives, and the way a university serves the public through research and community partnership,” said Montclair President Jonathan Koppell. “By these critical measures, Montclair State University is once again being recognized by one of the country’s leading college guides. The rising ranking underscores that Montclair – with its distinctive identity and track record as an institution committed to student success and public service – is uniquely positioned to meet the moment.”
