Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) on July 10 celebrated the agreement between Sweden and Turkey that will pave the way for Sweden’s ascension to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
“Sweden’s entry into NATO is a victory for the cause of peace and democracy,” said Congressman Pascrell. “Russia’s barbaric war on Ukraine has laid bare the absolute necessity for the advanced democratic governments of the world to work together to deter the brutality of dictatorships like Putin’s Russia. As the foremost military alliance in modern history, NATO has long stood for peace through strength and deterrence. With Sweden’s entry, our front becomes even more formidable.
“Once again President Biden and his team worked tirelessly to get this done bolstering America’s leadership in the world. I also appreciate the steadfast work of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who has family roots in Paterson, New Jersey, for leading the alliance and ensuring Sweden’s swift accession to the Grand National Assembly. And the Turkish government did the right thing. On July 10, the pursuit of liberty has gotten a big boost, and autocrats and tyrants face an even more powerful foe for freedom.”
