Move follows calls by Pascrell for key position to be filled

Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), who serves as the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee, today commended President Biden’s nomination of Marjorie Rollinson to serve as Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This appointment comes at a critical time as the nation continues to implement provisions of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, a significant piece of legislation that Congressman Pascrell helped pass last year. 

“I have been beseeching the President to fill this vital position at the IRS so this nomination is very welcome,” said Congressman Pascrell, New Jersey’s only member of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee. “The American tax system is slanted against regular Americans in part because of years of underfunding and dysfunction at the IRS. After decades of deliberate Republican attempts to wreck the IRS, our tax agency is finally on the right course. Last week, Republicans demanded gutting historic IRS investments to undo our progress and help millionaires cheat on their taxes. Bringing an end to our two-tier tax system is existential for American democracy. The appointment of a chief counsel may seem a minor bureaucratic move but it is a great signal for a fairer American economy.”

As Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee and now serving as its Ranking Member, Congressman Pascrell has spearheaded efforts to make our tax system fairer, ensure the IRS has the funds it needs, and reinforce our laws against wealthy tax cheats. He has repeatedly called on President Biden to appoint a new IRS Chief Counsel to help implement a new era of accountability and tax fairness at the agency.
