High school students have the opportunity to get a head start on their college journey this summer through Montclair State University's Pre-College Summer Programs. The programs offer hands-on courses in various fields such as Film, Pre-Med, Business, and Wall Street. Students will engage in immersive, college-level academics and participate in exclusive field trips to notable New York City destinations like Wall Street, the United Nations, and Broadway. This experience allows students to gain real-world exposure while living on campus and learning from experienced faculty.
Applications are now open for those interested in exploring future careers and experiencing college life firsthand. Dominique Houze, Montclair's senior director for Strategy and Program Development, states: "This transformative experience leaves a lasting impact, fostering students’ confidence and providing a clear pathway to future academic and personal success."
Students have shared positive feedback about the program. One student mentioned appreciating the depth of their program and the balance between class time and campus activities. Another student highlighted the professors' efforts in teaching new material. Additionally, a participant noted quickly making new friends through classes and events.
Montclair's pre-college program is described as New Jersey’s fastest-growing and most affordable residential option for high school students. It challenges participants academically while preparing them for college life.
The program offers two sessions: Session I runs from Sunday, July 13 to Saturday, July 19, 2025; Session II takes place from Sunday, July 20 to Saturday, July 26, 2025. Students can choose one or both weeks with courses tailored to their interests.
Located just 12 miles from New York City, Montclair utilizes its proximity to offer unique experiences within one of the world's most dynamic metropolitan areas.
Bradley Litchfield, co-managing director of Pre-College Summer Programs at Montclair State University remarks: “Not only are students experiencing college-level academics but they’re also learning to be independent and autonomous.” He adds that these experiences will stay with them for a lifetime and help shape their sense of identity.
Courses offered during Session I include Animation and VFX; Business Entrepreneurship Week; Fashion Design; Film & Television Production; Law & Order: Understanding America’s Criminal Justice System; Pre-medical Professions; Pre-teacher Academy; Sports Communication; Summer Honors: Creativity in New York City; Water Resilience: How Clean is Our Water.
Session II includes AI Driven Internet of Things (IoT); EcoMind Explorers: Discovering Conservation Psychology; Fashion Merchandising; Film & Television Production; Influencing Marketing & Creative Strategy; Model United Nations; Pre-medical Professions; Summer Honors: Leadership in the 21st Century; The Craft of Acting; Wall Street & Investment Experience.
Additionally available is Montclair's Dual Enrollment Program which allows students from participating New Jersey high schools to earn college credits while completing high school coursework at reduced rates with transferable credits applicable towards most colleges within New Jersey.
