#morriscanalmonday When Martin J. Ryerson’s son Peter became a director of the Morris Canal and Banking Company, he saw the canal's need for more water as a financial opportunity. He sold to the Canal Company the use of the water from Long Pond (now Greenwood Lake) and promoted the building of the Pompton Feeder as a navigable waterway. He also continued the project by straightening and deepening the river above the canal’s feeder dam and by adding a river towpath so the canal boats could continue past the feeder lock to dock just below his ironworks at Pompton.#morriscanal #seepassaiccounty #richhistorybrightfuture #njhistory #passaiccounty
