Montclair State University President Jonathan Koppell recently hosted a Town Hall meeting where he highlighted the university's commitment to community partnerships and transformational opportunities for students. Speaking at the event, Koppell emphasized the importance of collaborations with the city of Paterson and the positive impact these partnerships have on both communities and students.

“We’re a community with a special purpose … because what we are as a community, as partners, is a mission to deliver transformational opportunities to students, students from all backgrounds. That’s our assignment,” Koppell expressed during the Town Hall meeting.

Koppell also discussed initiatives aimed at breaking down barriers to higher education, such as partnering with community colleges and high schools. He addressed statewide issues like maternal health and the teaching shortage by introducing innovative programs like the Teacher Certification Apprenticeship and the Alternate Route Teacher Certification Program.

Looking ahead, Koppell outlined plans for the integration of Bloomfield College into the Montclair community, launching a revamped Honors Program, and providing resources for students' mental health. Additionally, he mentioned a focus on international recruitment for admission growth.

During the event, Koppell responded to questions about the university's goals, emphasizing the importance of community engagement. “It’s impossible for Montclair State University to be what we want it to be without functioning as a community … We need to be part of the process of revisiting everything that we do," he stated.

Koppell highlighted the university's adaptability and commitment to change, showcasing new programs like pre-college summer programs and different course modalities as examples of Montclair's evolution. “That’s the university I want to be,” he concluded.

The Town Hall meeting served as a platform for President Koppell to recognize the university's achievements, celebrate partnerships, and outline future initiatives that aim to enhance the educational experience for students.
