Today, our County Commissioner Director Bruce James, along with Commissioners Terry Duffy and Pat Lepore attended the official opening of City Green and the City of Clifton’s accessibility project.

This is a beautiful project and partnership between City Green and the City of Clifton which was awarded a $250,000 Inclusive Healthy Communities Grant from the NJ Division of Human Services and allowed them to make accessibility improvements to the gardens here at the Farm Eco-Center in Clifton.

This project highlights the importance of making gardens and outdoor spaces accessible to all, but it also goes one step further: they have made the Eco-Center universal. This means that people of all abilities can cohesively use all that the Eco-Center has to offer together alongside their peers. Someone who is in a wheelchair has easy access to garden if they’d like, and someone who needs to use an accessible pathway surface does not have to take a different, longer route. These improvements give everyone the same access to the mental and physical benefits of gardening, the outdoor environment, and programming regardless of ability, and fosters the unified community atmosphere Passaic County and City Green have worked hard to build together.

The County Commissioners are very proud of the County's partnerships with the City of Clifton and with City Green when it comes to Open Space Projects.

In 2005 and 2006, the Passaic County Open Space, Farmland, and Historic Preservation Trust Fund provided funding to the City of Clifton to acquire and preserve the land we are standing on today.

In 2014, The Passaic County Board of County Commissioners partnered with City Green to establish the Dig In! Program with funding from the Passaic County Open Space, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund and outstanding Administration by City Green.  Since 2014, all sixteen municipalities in Passaic County have had Dig In! Projects.

The County of Passaic is proud of the accessible City Green Farm Eco Center. Congratulations on a job well done!
